Pooey.. I think Miksy's gotten arthritis.. He's having a harder time getting up from a lying down position, and a harder time going up and down stairs.. Anyone know of anything good to help aging dogs? Miksy's going to be 12 July 13th..

What kind of water containers do you have for him? I heard that elevated dog stands that hold the food and water bowls can really help arthritic dogs since they're not putting so much pressure on their paws as they eat/drink. It is actually recommended to use them to prevent arthritis...or so I've heard. I'd give the vet a call just to see if he has any meds or advice that could help Miksy out.

My mom's dog used to have arthritis. Just keep an eye on Miksy because her dog would fall down the stairs a lot. But she was about eighteen when it got this bad. I hope it doesn't get too serious for Miksy. sad.gif

Hmm.. I could try elevating it. I'll do it later today.. since it's 2am now tongue.gif lol

Thanks! I think I actually knew of the elevating thing but I had completely forgotten. >.<

I'll try to contact the vet to see what he says about arthritis though too. smile.gif

I know this is alittle older, and right now you're gone but I was wondering how he's doing now. smile.gif

I also was going to add that there's a thing called glucosamine that you can get that helps dogs with arthritis, I mean you could go to the vet and get Deramxx or Rimadyl but that usually requires long term use and bloodwork to make sure it's not affecting his body organs so you know, that can be risky but the other (glucosamine) is helpful and I think it's pretty safe. smile.gif Just a thought
